Preparing for Fall Storms
June to October is hurricane season on the Atlantic Coast, with a peak of storms usually hitting in September. Experts have predicted that this season as a whole will have an above average number of storms.
While we are generally protected from hurricane-strength storms here in Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina, we often experience the leftover effects of storms after they hit land: strong winds, heavy rains, flash-flood threats, and residual flooding. To protect your home from these fierce storms, it’s important to have a waterproofed basement or crawl space.
During heavy storms, water quickly overflows drain pipes and stops being absorbed into the land, leading to rivers of water streaming over lawns and roads and pooling up against the side of houses. Unprotected crawl spaces and basements make the perfect landing space for standing water. Due to the damage to property and the foundation—plus the threat of mold—even a few inches of water under your home could lead to $10,000 in damage (larger floods can cause closer to $25,000 in repairs). And though some of us have flood insurance to help cover this cost, many storms can cause flooding even in areas outside of flood zones, where people often don’t purchase flood insurance.
To keep your home as safe as possible during fall’s big storms, let the experts at Thompson Brothers Exterminating and Waterproofing come waterproof your basement or crawl space. We provide waterproofing on external walls and interior walls, and we can even fix leaky basements and seal basements against future leaks. Our crawl space waterproofing solutions include installing sump pumps, drain systems, or moisture barriers – whatever solution is the best one of your particular home. We can even help in building retaining walls or contributing to waterproofing efforts on new construction.
Protect your home before the storms hit.
