Indoor and Outdoor Spring Season Pest Control
Spring in the south brings us warm weather, blooming flowers, and - unfortunately - lots of awakened spring pests. There are a variety of problematic insects that come to life this time of year, so it’s best to be prepared for a potential infestation before these pests become a big problem in or around your home.

Spring Insects to Look Out For
- Ticks: these small arachnids thrive in humid and rural areas, and can carry a handful of troubling and transmittable diseases. Pets are especially prone to host these pests.
- Ants: these tiny insects can do everything from biting and stinging to damaging wood structures with their tunnels. Spring is also the time when ants want to grow their colonies and find inhabitable places to nest.
- Termites: in the South, termites are especially prone to swarming in the spring, and can quickly wreak havoc on your home’s foundation or any other tasty wood they encounter.
- Stinging Pests: wasps, hornets, yellowjackets, and other bees wake up in the spring and look for places to lay eggs and establish colonies. These insects can sting when provoked, and can be extremely problematic for those who are allergic to their venom.
- Mosquitos: there’s a reason why mosquitos are jokingly called the state bird of the Carolinas - they can become rampant during spring’s warm, humid weather, and can cause everything from itchy bites to serious transmittable diseases.
- Spiders: perhaps the most icky of all spring pests, spiders are especially common in basements, garages, porches, or other sheltered areas. While some spiders are harmless, our area is also home to several venomous spiders whose bites can be highly dangerous.
How to Help Prevent Spring Pests
There are several ways to proactively help prevent spring pests from infesting the inside or outside of your home. Make sure to:
- Keep your gutters cleaned out so they won’t collect debris or water for pests to nest in.
- Seal up any openings around your home, especially around doors and windows.
- Trim shrubs and branches that are close to your home to prevent easy entry avenues for insects.
- Remove anything that could collect moisture around your home like buckets or kiddie pools.
- Keep food sealed up tightly in containers and eliminate crumbs on floors and counters.
